Data Scientist – Navigating The Data-Driven Career Landscape (47280)

Overview

As a Data Scientist on the Data, Analytics, Insights, and Business Operations team, you will work cross-functionally with data engineers, data scientists, business experts, and external vendors to help Starbucks make decisions better by using data and analytics. You will use your experience with forecasting, automating ETL processes, and designing and building analytical models using structured or unstructured data. You will work directly with business partners and technology teams from problem identification to solution. You will quickly become an expert in one of our key business and data domains (Supply Chain, People Analytics, Marketing, or Store) and work cross functionally in an analytics center of excellence to improve existing processes or analytical approaches

Responsibilities

  1. Communicate with clients to understand their business processes, rules, and requirements.
  2. Determine necessary models and algorithms that meet solution requirements.
  3. Determine data requirements. Gather, understand, clean, and process data for the modeling purposes. Write SQL or Python scripts that can be used to automate data preparation process.
  4. Build and deploy models using open-source and proprietary tools.
  5. Test and validate model results for robustness and accuracy.
  6. Create effective and quality visualization dashboards and presentations to explain business insights and results to project steering committees.
  7. Develop and generate new ideas/projects for using Advanced Analytics with the two strategic goals.
  8. Optimizing revenues in existing projects in operations.
  9. Improving accuracy of Traffic and Revenue forecasts by using new data sources and techniques to improve knowledge of main variables affecting the forecasts.
  10. Develop, lead, and execute Data Analytics projects used either for Business Development activities (analysis of new projects) or for optimization of projects in Operations.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Operations Research, Data Science, Statistics, Civil or Industrial Engineering
Proficiency in Advanced Analytic Techniques
High level of skill in SQL and/or Spark to process
Experience in R and/or Python in implementing data science packages/routines
Experience in Databases
